Publishing and the E-Book

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/01/business/media/01ebooks.html

Here is an interesting article on the cost of publishing and how much money is generated with a book vs. an e-book.

On that note, what do you think about the Kindle, Sony E-Reader and Apple's iPad? Do you think that all are equal? Do you think one is better than another? Does price play a factor in your opinion? Let me know what you think on Thursday!

  1. I don't really have a preference one way or the other EXCEPT with the fact that Kindle refuses to provide materials to libraries. Amazon believes using the ebook in libraries violates copyright law. The Sony company willingly provides readers to libraries and has digital software to aid in library ebook checkouts and due dates (also offering a secure sign in feature). The ipad may "blow both readers out of the water," but libraries are for open access, and Apple is for profit, which means that their materials MUST be used on their readers and cannot be shared or downloaded. The other digital reader is the Follett Reader; however, Follett readers only read Follett books and Follett books MUST be read on Follett readers. So, for libraries, I'm going with the Sony Reader. If you're looking for good competition with Sony, I'd suggest the Barnes and Noble reader, which I may be looking into.
